Gender Study

Gender study shows disparity in performance between girls and boys

Girls are outperforming boys in the classrooms of Stillwater Area Public Schools according to results of a gender study conducted in the spring of 2011. When examining the performance data of high school students over the past two years, district leaders found that female students generally performed better than their male counterparts.

The overall findings in Stillwater closely match those found in many national studies related to gender gap. On standardized tests, such as the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments, boys and girls generally performed quite similarly. In the classroom, however, female students performed at a much higher level than males; earning higher grades, participating in more Advanced Placement courses, and receiving more academic awards.
