An operating levy, which provides $11 million to our schools each year, will be expiring in 2014. Without renewal of this levy, the district faces a loss of nearly 20 percent of its annual revenue.
Last week, community members joined with district leaders for two meetings to learn how dollars from the existing operating levy have been invested, and how students and the community would be impacted if the levy was not renewed. Between the two meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday at Oak-Land Junior High and Stillwater Junior High, more than 100 community members weighed in with their opinions.
The school board will be approving a budget reduction list on March 7, and this list of items will be cut if the levy is not renewed. The intent is to provide the community with an understanding of how the $11 million levy has been invested and what the impact would be if no levy was in place.
