Community Education at a Glance

Adult Basic Education provides free educational programs and services for students who wish to receive their GED or brush up on basic skills. Call Kim Melin at 651-351-4000.

Adult Programs provides opportunities for adults who want to learn a new skill, explore a new interest area, or enrich their personal or professional lives. Call Sarah Carlton at 651-351-8484.

Adult Athletics provides organized volleyball, basketball, and softball leagues for community residents. In addition, open gyms are scheduled for less structured, informal play.  Call Kevin Johnston at 651-351-8346.

Adventure Club and Spin offer before and after-school, non-school day, and summer child care in the elementary schools. Students from kindergarten through sixth grade are welcome. Call Jason Anderson at 651-351-8451.

Aquatics provides all levels of swimming instruction, water safety instructor and lifeguard training, water exercise activities and recreation for preschool through adult students. Call Sarah Carlton at 651-351-8484.

Early Childhood Family Education is a program for families with children birth to kindergarten age. Classes include parent discussion, parent-child activities, and opportunities for children to learn and grow together. Home visits and special events are also part of the program. Early Childhood Screening is required by the State of Minnesota for all children prior to kindergarten entrance. Children are screened beginning at age 3. Families are notified by mail of screening dates and times. Call Margie Schwartzbauer at 651-351-4022 to schedule an appointment.

English as a Second Language (ESL) provides English lessons for foreign born adults with limited English ability. Call Kim Melin at 651-351-4000.

Facility Use provides space in school district buildings for a variety of activities by groups, organizations, and individuals. Call Kevin Johnston at 651-351-8346.

Friends offers social and recreational opportunities for teens and adults with mental disabilities. Call Sarah Carlton at 651-351-8484.

Preschool Education focuses on learning opportunities that help children make a smooth and successful transition to kindergarten.  Two different models are offered for parent involvement.  Call Betty Soine at 651-351-4021 or Linda Jolicoeur at 651-351-4020.

Workforce Education provides customized English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Technology programs for businesses in the community. Call Sarah Carlton at 651-351-8484.

Youth Athletics provides athletic skill development opportunities for youth in a variety of sports in both the school year and summer.  Call Kevin Johnston at 651-351-8346.

Youth Development provides opportunities for elementary and secondary age youth to grow as individuals through citizenship, service learning and leadership development.  Call Amy Skare at 651-351-8348.

Youth Enrichment provides opportunities for elementary and secondary age youth to learn new concepts and develop skills in a variety of topic areas, including; science, math, art, computers, cooking and more.  Enrichment classes take place both after school and in the summer.  Call Amy Skare at 651-351-8348.

Advisory Council

The Community Education Advisory Council supports and promotes the philosophy and concept of community education. Members represent areas of the school district and specific program areas, and help to identify and assess community education needs, interests and concerns.
